Therapy, also referred to as psychotherapy or counseling, is a collaborative process that provides individuals with the opportunity to engage in conversations with a trained professional. Its aim is to address a wide range of life challenges, including emotional distress, anxiety, family issues, trauma, mood disorders, grief and loss, and difficulties in relationships. Moreover, therapy can play a BENEFICAL role in promoting personal growth, helping individuals achieve their personal goals, and equipping them with effective coping skills to manage stress and navigate everyday problems.

We currently have the convenience of accepting insurance plans from Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Healthcare. For those who prefer not to use their insurance or have a plan we do not accept, we offer a self-pay option. Our self-pay rates are $185 for initial intake appointments and $145 for each subsequent session.

We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice when canceling or rescheduling an appointment in order to avoid a late cancellation fee. Please contact the office to cancel or reschedule appointments.

Missed, canceled, or rescheduled appointments with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a $100 charge for therapy visits. This is not covered by insurance and will be charged to your credit card on file.

In order to accommodate individuals seeking more affordable care, we provide the option to schedule appointments with a graduate counseling intern who is completing their internship hours at Bijelic Counseling Services under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist at our office. The rates for seeing an intern are $75 for the intake session and $55 for each additional session.

If you would like to explore your options further or have any questions, please feel free to contact our office at (319) 250-5982. Our team would be more than happy to discuss your specific needs and provide you with the necessary information.

After confirming your appointment, you will be provided with information and given access to a secure patient portal that complies with HIPAA regulations. Through this portal, you will be able to complete the required forms for your treatment.

Upon your arrival at the first appointment, we kindly request that you bring a photocopy of your insurance card and a credit/debit card, which will be securely stored for future co-pays or any outstanding deductibles. Alternatively, you may choose to upload images of your insurance card and input your credit card information directly into your patient portal.

During your initial appointment, you will have the opportunity to establish a connection with your therapist. This session will involve a discussion where your therapist will ask questions to gain a better understanding of your background, experiences, relationships, stressors, symptoms, and more.

Additionally, you will have the chance to articulate your expectations and hopes for the counseling experience. This initial session is also a valuable opportunity for you to assess whether the therapist is the right fit for you. Subsequently, you and your therapist will collaborate to establish personalized therapy goals that will guide your progress moving forward

Every individual and situation is distinct, so the duration of therapy sessions may vary. While some individuals may find resolution after only a few sessions, it is more common for people to benefit from multiple sessions.

Each session typically lasts between 45-53 minutes, providing ample time for individuals to explore their concerns and work towards their goals.

When beginning therapy, it is often recommended to schedule weekly sessions to help you support progress toward your goals and help manage distress and symptoms. As improvement is observed, reducing sessions to once every two weeks is typical, allowing greater time for personal reflection and application of therapeutic insights. As you continue to make progress and experience a decrease in distress and symptoms, it is common to transition to bi-weekly sessions tpo allow for ongoing support as well as more time for reflection and integration between sessions.

But, if having weekly sessions is difficult because of your schedule or money, talk to your therapist. Together, you can decide how often you should meet based on what works best for you.

Taking medication is a voluntary decision, but it can be beneficial for certain disorders or issues. This topic will be addressed and thoroughly discussed between you and your therapist during your sessions. If you may benefit from medication, we can help refer you to a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

Certainly! SOME PROVIDERS REQUIRE THE FIRST COUPLE SESSION SESSIONS IN PERSON. We understand that various factors like commute times, work schedules, illness, inclement weather, or personal preference may make it difficult for individuals to attend in-person appointments. To cater to such needs, all our therapists offer the option of engaging in secure telehealth sessions.

Telehealth utilizes a secure and electronic platform, allowing you to connect with your provider and conduct your appointments through a secure video system. To ensure your privacy and make the most of your session, it is important to be in a private and secure environment. While you can use your car for privacy, please remember that you should not be driving during the session.

Once you schedule your appointment, you will receive initial paperwork that includes additional information about telehealth. If you have any further questions, please feel free to address them with your therapist or our administrative staff.
